The participants of Open Door Teachings built Sanctuary in the Pines as an opportunity to practice cooperation and creativity in awareness. We offer this space to you as an expression of our deepened joy and commitment to each other—and to the world.

Nestled in a woodland area of Highland Lake, surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, Sanctuary in the Pines offers a perfect setting for any event. Just minutes away from historic Hendersonville, we cater to individuals and groups who are looking for a sacred space for retreats, weddings, small conferences and family gatherings.

The Sanctuary’s 1,200 square foot timber-framed meeting space with cathedral ceiling, Palladian windows and a wrap-around porch invites the senses to participate with nature. The lake is visible from the grounds, and our garden has been lovingly created to blend delicately with the surrounding scenery. Our 600 square foot dining area can seat 60 people, and an adjoining warming kitchen provides the essentials for a catering staff. For those not staying at the Retreat House, Highland Lake offers an assortment of Adirondack style vacation rentals ranging from rustic camp cabins and family cottages at the retreat end of the lake to luxury spa suites at the other. For larger groups, additional lodging and dining facilities can be found next door at the Highland Lake Inn and Season’s restaurant.
